ISSA ABOU EL ELLA (ALEXANDRIA SPORTING CLUB) WINS 36-HOLE KATAMEYA HEIGHTS AMATEUR OPEN BY 12 SHOTS
By Egyptian Golf Federation
Issa Abou El Ella (Alexandria Sporting Club) shot rounds of 73 and 67, for a 36-hole total of 140, four under par to win the 2025 Katameya Heights Amateur Open at Katameya Heights Golf and Tennis Resort held Friday 11th – Saturday 12th April, 2025.
After his first round one over par 73, Abou El Ella had a four-shot lead from two players.
Playing in the shotgun start format in the second round, he teed off on hole one and had a bogey-free card – with nines of 33 and 34.
Abou El Ella, playing off a + 4 handicap, told the Egyptian Golf Federation on completing his second round, ‘My first round was untidy and scrappy, but I managed to get it round close to par. I have not played this course for 12 months and it took time to adjust. I was not aware that there were preferred lies on grass areas this week, until I arrived for today’s second round. That is my fault. My second round was much better and I hit the ball nicely and had three birdies on the front nine on holes 2, 4 and 9 and an eagle three on the par 5, 15th with the rest all pars.’
He had a total of one eagle, 8 birdies, 4 bogeys and a double over the two rounds – with the double coming on his opening hole of the tournament, hole one – yesterday.
He won by an impressive 12 shots from second placed Ali Salama (Madinaty Golf Club) who had rounds of 77 and 75 to beat into third place the leading home player, Hassan Said, who had rounds of 77 and 77.
Abou El Ella’s next tournament is the $300,000 Abu Dhabi Challenge on the HotelPlanner Tour (formerly the Challenge Tour) to be held Thursday 17th – Sunday 20th April, 2025, at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting & Golf Club, Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.
Abou El Ella is still finalizing his 2025 summer schedule on the amateur scene – but it will include The 130th Amateur Championship at Royal St Georges, Kent, England, in mid-June.
The Ladies Katameya Amateur Open title was won by Lujain Khalil (Riyadh Golf Club, KSA) with two rounds of 82. She plays off a 4 handicap and travelled with her family from Saudi Arabia to compete this week.
